COVID-19 Policy Information

Epidemic and Pandemic Cancellation and Overseas Medical Expenses Cover

COVID-19 changed travel, but as borders open up we want to give you peace of mind as you see the world. BNZ Advantage Visa Platinum and Advantage Business travel policies now include cover for some of the risks you face as a result of COVID-19 and other epidemic or pandemic illnesses.

What's Covered

  • Cancellation cover up to $100,000 if you or your relative* is medically diagnosed with COVID-19 and as result you are unable to commence or continue your trip;
  • Medical expenses up to $350,000 should you, your accompanying spouse, or your accompanying dependent children be medically diagnosed with COVID-19 while travelling overseas.

Coverage is subject to the terms and conditions of the insurance policy, including any applicable limitations and exclusions.

*Relative – means your spouse, parent, parent-in-law, son, daughter, sister, brother, grandchild, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, guardian, fiancé, fiancée, half-brother, half-sister, niece or nephew

What's not covered

Insurance can support you for unexpected costs, but to keep insurance affordable there are some things that we can’t cover. Your policy provides cover for medical or cancellation costs if your trip is impacted by you or your relative being medically diagnosed with COVID-19, but excludes all other claims arising from epidemics or pandemics.

This means you won't have cover for losses due to:

  • Government intervention, including border closures
  • Government advisories warning against travel to any destination
  • Disinclination to travel or fear of travel
  • Changes to your itinerary made by airlines or other travel providers
  • Failure to meet requirements such as a vaccine certificate or proof of a negative test result
  • Quarantine or MIQ costs

We recommend that you read the Policy Wording Document to ensure that you have the right level of cover for your trip.
